How is a Restorative Justice conference organised?

Prior to any conference the facilitators will first meet with the offender and their support people to provide information and assess whether a conference is appropriate.

They will then meet with the victim and their support people to provide information and assess whether a conference is appropriate.

How does it happen?

Offender pleads guilty
Judge identifies case as suitable for Restorative Justice

Court Officer advises Restorative Justice Coordinator

Coordinator refers case to Facilitators

Victim Advisor contacts Victim

Facilitators contact offender and victim to
arrange pre-conference meetings

Facilitators decide whether a restorative
justice conference would be appropriate

Both offender and victim agree to attend

A conference is held in a safe and suitable
location

A Court report is completed before the
Judge sentences the offender
