What is Restorative Justice Conferencing?

It is a process whereby the person harmed by an offence (victim) and the person responsible (offender) agree to meet in a safe and controlled environment with a trained facilitator to -

  • Discuss what happened and the effects on all involved.
  • Allow the offender to accept responsibility for the offence.
  • Identify ways to restore the harm caused by the behaviour.
  • Reach an agreement for the offender to address the consequences of his or her behaviour.
